State of the Survey 2026

Every year, the State of the Sector survey gives us a vital snapshot of the voluntary and community sector in Wiltshire. It’s our chance – your chance – to show the true picture of the work we do in communities, the pressures we face, and the impact we deliver in our region.

And this year, we’ve made it even easier. A shorter, sharper survey. Ten minutes. One powerful collective voice.

By taking part, you help us build a clear, evidence-based understanding of the strengths, challenges and needs of our sector. The more responses we receive, the stronger and more accurate that picture becomes – and the harder it is for decision-makers to ignore.

Why your 10 minutes matters

This isn’t a survey that disappears into a drawer. Your insights directly shape real decisions and real change. Last year’s findings:

· Informed the development of the Wiltshire Council–VCSE Partnership Framework, strengthening how the sector and the council work together.

· Provided evidence for the creation of the Wiltshire Community Lottery, unlocking new fundraising opportunities for local causes.

· Underpinned our work highlighting the pressures facing charities, including rising costs and closures, gaining national media attention and amplifying the sector’s concerns.

This is what collective evidence can do. It influences policy. It unlocks support. It strengthens our case when we speak on behalf of the sector.

We know surveys aren’t fun

Let’s be honest – surveys rarely top anyone’s to-do list. After years as an Office for National Statistics Labour Force Survey interviewer, I know the groan all too well.

That’s exactly why we’ve worked hard to keep this one focused and meaningful. Every question has a purpose. Nothing is included unless it genuinely helps us advocate for you.

Your voice is essential

Whether you’re a small grassroots group or a large established organisation, your experience matters. When you take part, you’re not just filling in a form – you’re strengthening the collective voice of Wiltshire’s VCSE sector.
